Summary
When Byrne and Susan Hollander are killed in a brutal home invasion, the whole of New York City catches its collective breath. A few days later, when the killers turn up dead in Brooklyn, the city sighs with relief and the cops close the case. But Matt Scudder--who with his wife, Elaine, was in the same room with the Hollanders in the hours before their deaths--decides to take a closer look.
