Summary
When Joshua moves to a small cabin on the edge of town, the local people are at first mystified, then confused by his presence. A quiet and simple man, Joshua appears to seek nothing for himself. He supports himself by carpentry and woodworking, for which he charges very little. Yet his work is exquisite, and his haunting carvings of religious figures cause both amazement and consternation. Joshua quietly and lovingly urges all around him to break down the walls that separate them, but as rumours of his abilities circulate, some of his neighbors become frightened and disturbed
