- Summary
- Tasmin and her family--the wealthy, eccentric and British Berrybenders--are under irksome, though comfortable, arrest in Mexican Santa Fe. Her father is planning to head for Texas with his family and retainers. Tasmin, who once would have followed her husband, Jim Snow, anywhere, is no longer even sure she likes him. In the meantime, Jim Snow and Kit Carson journey to New Orleans, where they meet up with Juppy--a muscular black giant who happens to be one of Lord Berrybender's many illegitimate offspring--before returning to Santa Fe. Then, after being taken by the Mexicans on a long and terrible journey across the desert to Vera Cruz, the Berrybenders make their harrowing way New Orleans--where Jim Snow must choose between Tasmin and the Great Plains, and Tasmin must finally decide where her future lies
