Summary
Here is Will Rhodes: globe-trotting journalist, living in a crumbling house with a crumbling marriage, his idealism giving way to disillusionment, to the increasing worry that he's living the wrong life. One night, in Argentina, a provocative woman makes Will an offer that he can't resist, then a very different sort of offer that he can't refuse. Will is suddenly plucked from his New York offices at Travelers magazine and thrust into the treacherous world of international intrigue. Will starts asking dangerous questions--about missing colleagues and incomplete archives, about disappeared ex-spies--and soon finds himself fleeing for his life in a frantic race through the menaching late-night streets of Dublin and Barcelona to a midnight raid on an elegant Paris mansion and an isolated cabin perched on a desolate cliff in Iceland. It becomes clear that nothing about Will's life was ever ordinary. The network of deception ensnaring him is part of an immense conspiracy with complex origins in World War II and global implications today. No one is who they appear to be--and that the people closest to Will may pose the greatest threat of all
