Summary
A Highlands crime spree leaves Hamish Macbeth with more police work than he desires, but his successful investigations have an even more undesirable result--they've attracted the unwanted attention of his superiors, who plan to give him a promotion and transfer. Leaving Lochdubh is the last thing Macbeth wants, so now the laconic lawman needs a clever way to quash the move without losing his job entirely. He also needs to solve one more case. The inhabitants of the remote fishing village of Stoyre are acting, well, fishy. On a routine visit, Macbeth finds the pub empty and the church unexpectedly full. Faces are hostile, mouths tightly closed, and fear is in the air. Macbeth must ferret out the truth without alerting his superiors to what may be another stroke of his special genius
