- Victoria Trumbull is a feisty ninety-two-year-old with an encyclopedic knowledge of her native island of Martha's Vineyard who refuses to let the aches and pains of age stop her from enjoying her multifarious activities. Enlisted by the Conservation Trust to search a plot of land for an endangered plant--in order to prevent the land's subsequent development--Victoria's first find is the body of one Montgomery Mausz, the developer's rather dubious attorney. But with her eleven-year-old after-school assistant, she's also rewarded by the discovery of a nest of cranefly orchids and a series of adventures that both delight and scare the pair
