- Summary
- April, 1915: Chaplain Joseph Reavley is plunged deep into the nightmare of trench warfare as he tends to the soldiers in his care. On one of his forays into no-man's land, Joseph finds the body of an arrogant war correspondent, Eldon Prentice. A nephew of respected General Owen Cullingford, Prentice was despised for his attempts to turn public opinion against the war. Evidence suggests Prentice has been killed by one of his own--and Joseph is afraid he may know who. Joseph's sister, Judith--Cullingford's driver and translator--has her own suspicions. Meanwhile, their brother, Matthew, an intelligence officer in London, continues his search for the sinister figure called the Peacemaker, who is also trying to undermine the war effort, and who the Reavleys believe is behind a fantastic plot to reshape the world
